We took our family vacation to Destin, FL this year. We try to make it to Florida on a regular basis but it had been a couple years since we'd been. The last time we went the kids looked like this...
This year our amazing friends the Peterson's gave us this cute little Travelin' Monkey to take on our trip with us. So he'll be in a few of the pictures you see. We left early on a Sunday morning and drove all the way to Clinton, MS. The kids did great in the car!
Monday morning we woke up and headed to Florida. But on the way out we had to try a donut shop we had heard so much about. We stopped in Hattiesburg, MS to try Shipley Do-Nuts and boy were they worth the stop! They were so good!
As we headed into Florida over the bridge we went straight into a huge thunderstorm! It was raining so hard and it was kind of a welcome change from the drought we were experiencing back home in Oklahoma. Unfortunately the rain didn't stop for the first day and half so we only got a little time at the beach those first couple days.
The rain stopped just enough for us to make a quick visit to the beach after we checked into our condo. We weren't planning on staying long so we didn't dig out swimsuits but we should have. Because just going to look at the water turned into falling into the water on "accident". By the time we left they were soaked and covered in sand. But hey, it's vacation!
Kate LOVED running away from the waves! She hadn't been to the beach since she was a year old so I wasn't sure what she'd think of it, but she absolutely loved it!
Kate found a shell for her Meme. She held on to for about an hour until she lost it the swimming pool.
We had one day that it rained and rained all day so we decided to see a movie (along with the rest of Destin!). But after that we spent lots of time at the beach. The boys got boogie boards and loved riding the waves in.
One evening we made a trip to San Destin. Baytown Wharf is such a fun place to visit. They have all sorts of fun things for the kids to do and lots of cute shops. We had dinner on the patio and just had a great time with Matt and Whitney.
The kids had a great time doing the Euro Bungy at Baytowne Wharf. Kate even got to do it! She loved jumping and tried so hard to do a flip. The boys tried to but no one could seem to get all the way over.
On our last night we went to the harbor for dinner. We watched an air show at sunset and then later we watched fireworks. It was a great ending to a great trip! We can't wait to go back!
